Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Director: Quentin Tarantino
Starring: Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Melanie Laurent, Michael Fassbender, Diane Kruger, Daniel Bruhl, Eli Roth
Certificate: 18
Genre: War
Awards: Best supporting actor (Waltz)

The first ten minutes of the film shows one of the most brilliant and tense scenes of the history of cinema, as the Jew Hunter - Hans Landa (Waltz) - is one of the greatest characters Tarantino has ever created. He seems charming but he can see what other Nazis can not.

The Jew hunter's story, However, is one of three (As usual for a Tarantino film).  On the side of the allies, stands a guerilla group of American Jewish soldiers who are deep in nazi occupied france scalping Nazis and generally bringing fear and death to the German soldiers. The group is led by lieutenant Aldo Raine (Pitt) who likes to carve swastikas into the surviving nazi's foreheads to send back to the army.

The third story is of a French Jewish girl called Shosanna (Laurent) who's family were killed by Hans Landa and his men. She now owns a cinema and plans to blow up a nazi premier there as revenge for the death of her family.

Inglourious Basterds is defiantly in the top three Tarantino films made so far as it's story is brilliant and it even has music from Ennio Morricone (Sergio Leone films) and David Bowie. You know what Tarantino? This may just be your masterpiece.

*****Brilliant

P.S I'm now away for four weeks
