Real Steel (2011)

Director: Shawn Levy
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly
Certificate: 12
Genre: Boxing, Sci Fi, Family
Awards: None

When I entered the cinema, I did not have much hope for Real Steel. But it is in fact pretty good. Charlie Kenton (Jackman) controls robots in boxing matches, but he's broke, in debt, and his robots keep dying. When his son Max (Goyo) comes to stay for the summer, they train a robot named Atom to take down the bots from the big league.

Real Steel is different to your transformers movies. It's still loud and full of energy, but it's more sophisticated and clever. It's more about the humans than the actual robots. All in all, it is a good film.

****Good

  1. This movie is pretty much what you'd expect, and a bit of what you might not expect. It has been called "Rocky" with robots, or "The Champ" meets Rock 'em Sock 'em, and while there may be some similarities, "Real Steel" does manage to blaze its own path, even if it's a well-trod path.
