Coriolanus (2011)

Director: Ralph Fiennes
Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Gerard Butler, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave
Certificate: 15
Genre: Thriller drama war
Awards: None

Coriolanus (Fiennes) is a general in a place that calls itself Rome. He has protected the people of Rome from attacks from his sworn enemy Aufidius (Butler). But after some manipulation of politicians, the people decide that Coriolanus deserves death. So Coriolanus decides to join Aufidius in invading Rome to have sweet revenge (seems reasonable).

This isn't a film that you can just switch off while watching, as the shakespearian language makes it so you have to concentrate the whole time. The film doesn't show the public in a very good light, with showing how easily people can be manipulated. I found the story to be a bit weak, but the acting is terrific. Fiennes directional debut is best described as the marmite of the food industry. You either love it or hate it.

****Good
